A branch of Udupi Sri Puttige Math with Sannidhanam (sanctum sanctorum) of Lord Sri Krishna, Hanuman and Raghavendra Swamiji was opened by Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puthige Math, Udupi at Pratapaditya Road in south Kolkata on May 16th..

The math provides food, accommodation, shelter and other amenities to all pilgrims who travel from Gaya to Puri.

The Udupi Sri Krishna idol was brought from Vedbhavan to the new premises. Iskcon chief Bhakti Purushottam Swami of Mayapur, Jayashanker Maharaja of Ramakrishna Belur Math and Charukeerthi Bhattraka Swamiji from Karnataka were chief guests on the occasion .

Chairman and managing director of UCO Bank Sridhar, M.V. Nath from Vivad Shipping Corporation, V.P.Alwa from Vijay Bank and mayor Subrato Mukherjee were among others present.

Besides devotees offering a tulabhaar to the seer, there were bhajans and cultural programes too. Thousands attended the holy occasion.

This is the first-ever Madhwa centre from south India to be established in east India.
